    Corporate America, corporate schools?

    Earlier this year, we wrote a practice argumentative essay in AP English about whether or not schools should invite corporate sponsorship to make up for budget shortfalls. I argued yes. It seemed like an easier argument.

    Now, my school is actually starting to accept corporate sponsors, and I’m not liking it so much. The first big sponsor was Nike. They gave our track team some free swag and hosted publicity events like a Nike iD shoe designing contest. During one of our gym classes, they came and did a big hoopla presentation about its innovative footwear technology.

    I didn’t buy none of it. Firstly, I’m an Adidas guy, through and through. And secondly, technology and footwear is a joke! Footwear is all about style and marketing. That’s it, it’s a fashion statement. Whatever technological advancement you do in shoes.. I’m sure it cost a lot and your engineers worked hard, but it’s minute and insignificant. You aren’t going to run much faster by wearing the newest Adidas Fluid Motion trainers than if you used a model from the 70s. Technology may be your marketing push, but I don’t buy any of it.

    Then came Dunkin’ Donuts. They weren’t just sponsoring, they went one step further. Dunkin’ now sells fresh coffee at our school three mornings a week. And they took their famous tagline to our school, Neekwah Runs On Dunkin’ (of course I didn’t use my real school name so people don’t find me). See, I have nothing against Dunkin’, but I live caffeine-free and I’d rather others do to. Now they have quick and cheap coffee at their disposal. Ah.. the wonders of corporate America.

    They may be a bit before my time, but check these DeLorean kicks! They’re officially licensed by DMC and made by Nike. Real stainless steel upper with soles that look like DeLorean taillights. And comes in a gullwing box!

    Hm.. I never knew Converse and Hurley are both owned by Nike

    But it’s okay because I never liked those two brands anyway.

    Jordan vs Adidas

    Marcus Jordan, son of the best ball player in the world, goes to University of Central Florida, which happens to be under an $2 million Adidas contract. But obviously, Jordan’s not about to ditch the family’s own Nike Jordan brand for some Adidas kicks. Now what?
