    Xtreme Typing!

I got bored and decided to see how fast I could type under xtreme conditions.

First up was one-handed. I type pretty consistently at 35 wpm with just my left hand, though blind typing is out of the question. Haven’t tried my right hand yet.

Then, I thought a more useful metric would be 1 hand + 1 finger, because that’s what I have to do when my other hand is covered in Cheeto dust. With left hand + right 4th finger, I was able to type a surprising 60 wpm, enough to win TypeRacer races.

Then I did a “duet” with my sister, where I used my left hand and she used her right. We only got 24 wpm. Hopefully we will improve with practice.

Best day of weather so far this year

    • Sunny, mid-70s temperature, low humidity, breezy, overall wonderful
    • I stayed outside for a long time even though I had nothing to do
    • I cleaned my longboard bearings, but they didn’t really need cleaning
    • Longboarded a bit on the fresh bearings, but they didn’t really make a difference
    • Thoroughly inspected my car, but didn’t find anything wrong
    • So I didn’t really accomplish much, but did I mention? The weather was totally amazing!

Why is everyone celebrating being done with APUSH?

    mynameis-touya-:

    andrewnonumbers:

How can you just be ‘done’ with it? You can’t. You live in America; you’re living in the legacy of all the events from your 1000-page textbook.

For a history class, AP U.S History sure taught me a lot that I’ll use in real life. I’m impressed with how much history has structured the modern world, and I was equally impressed with how much information I actually collected in my head without trying to cram in facts. The only studying I actually did was the night before the AP test.

In the bigger scope, that AP test isn’t even that important to me. What does it matter if I get a 4 or a 5? It’s just one AP test out of the 10 I’ll probably take by the end of high school. What really matters to me is how APUSH has changed my perspectives, because really, history is not a singular subject. It touches on every corner of human knowledge, and thus it’s important for just about everyone who will interact with society. I can’t say how many times in the study of APUSH that I saw a historical pattern reflected in today’s world. Like they say, those who don’t study the past are doomed to repeat it.

Another interesting thing that APUSH changed in me is politics. This was one thing that always confused the heck out of me. My parents are not politically-active, and most of my friends are quite unaware as well. I ended up like so many other young people, shunning politics as something useless and boring. Well, APUSH cleared up a lot for me. Apparently, politics is as inevitable as history itself. Though ugly, politics is intertwined with everything. To ignore politics would be to relegate yourself to a lower status, to be controlled by those who are more aware.

In my ideal world, politics would be invisible and everyone would be able to focus on a real skill. For me, design. But humans are incapable of perfection, and thus politics will continue. There’s one thing Thomas Jefferson said that always stuck to me. I can’t remember the exact quote, but it was a warning that the greatest nation will fail if its citizens become blind to politics and the government gains control. That, to me, is the truth of politics.

AP US History didn’t teach me jackshit. I’m glad i’m done with it, I fucking detest history.

In my ideal world, I train pokemon and am the very best. It’s a happy place.

    Ooh yeah, can’t beat Pokemon!
