It randomly renamed a lot of my folders to nonsense like found.000 and dir0002.chk and moved them all to my hard drive root. Now it’s a big cluttered mess that I have to sort out, not to mention some of my files were permanently lost (including music I actually purchased!). The worst part is not knowing what files I need to look for among the botched folder names since, as far as I can tell so far, it pulled random folders from all over my hard drive. A Google search shows that this problem is as old as Windows 2000. F for Windows.
EDIT: My bad, after further research I realized that this is actually the correct behavior for Windows. You see, when Windows crashes, it dumps whatever files it thinks might’ve been damaged to these random folders. And the user’s supposed to recover them using one of the many softwares available. Well s***, if only I read that sooner since I already manually sorted through them and deleted the rest.
